We took this photo of our home when we first moved in. We love our little house, but I think the front door area needs a little work. Since this picture was taken, we've placed topiaries on either side of the door, and added a welcome mat. We plan on purchasing porch furniture as well. But there's one thing we can't decide on: a front door color. Our current door is hunter green, like our shutters. We like that color, but since the front door desperately needs painting anyway, we are thinking about changing the color. We don't know what color, though! Any suggestions? A red door is at the top of my list, but I don't think Matt's too keen on that. ;)

What a pretty little home! I like red, too. Maybe lean more toward a burgundy for Matt?
Definately red :) That house is begging for a red door!
Love the house by the way - makes me want to move out of California so I could afford a house like that.
I'm in love with your home, Jordin! Goodness, it's adorable.
I agree with Tracy about using red for the front door, but in a different shade than bright red. There are *so* many shades of red! You might want to go to the paint store and pick up some color samples, taping a few to the front door for a better idea of what it'd look like.
I'm in love with your house. ;o)
Okay, I had a better look-see by clicking on the picture to make it larger. The bricks under the front porch will help in determining the color red. I'm thinking maybe Puce (puice?sp?) or a deep persimmon...?
Red would look great! I've always thought red doors were adorable, and so welcoming. You're house is so beautiful and it looks brand new. What a sweet picture!
Thank you for all of your suggestions! You know, it never crossed my mind that Matt would be okay with various shades of red...but he is! But now he likes Tracy's suggestion of burgandy *and* lady jane's persimmon idea! We're at an impasse! ;)
We'll let you know what we decide! If there are anymore ideas to throw in the mix, bring them on. We appreciate it!
My husband just did our door RED a couple of weeks ago...I LOVE it..
oh your house is so cute..Jordin...what a cozy looking home...trying not to be jealous !!!!

This is one of the brick colors...not the darkest but not the lightest. Ignore the imperfect coloring with my paintbrush. I can do a darker brick for a comparison. :-)

Oh your home is so cute! :-)
I say just re paint it hunter green :-) That's one of my fav. colors. So is burgandy though. :)
If you paint the door red, will you do the shutters also or leave them hunter green?
You can always buy a whole new door. I can see a nice gold trim door on your house. :-) But it's probably cheaper just to paint what's there already :-)
Bless you,
Dawn
Deby,
Thank you! I do love a RED door! ;)

Joyce (a.k.a. door painting genius),
Wow! Thanks for doing that! That is SO neat! Could you really do the same thing with one of the darker brick colors?

Dawn,
Thank you! If money were no object, I would want a new oak door. But alas, money IS an object! ;) Hence, the paint.
I love the green and red combination, so we will definitely leave the shutters green even if we paint the door red.
Sure, Jordin ~ no problem and much fun! Here it is with a darker brick(notice the actual brick outlined in white that was grabbed as the color). A dark brick(one close to the steps) turns out brown so I scratched that look(unless you want to see it!). It looks as if there is a frame on the door painted hunter green...this time it was included in the not-so-straight-lines painting.

If you want to show me a color via a link that you have in mind(burgundy?), I'll try to get as close to the color and give you a tinypic with the new look. :-)
"door painting genuis": ROTFLOL! I'm using Rainbow to grab a color(not perfect but close) and get the code(program is found on shipscript's eBay about me page) and a paint program that came with the computer, then save the pic and upload it to tinypic for the link to share. :-)
Joyce--
THAT'S the color!!! I LOVE it! Not red, red--but more of a persimmon color that lady jane suggested. It's perfect. Thank you for doing that--I feel MUCH better knowing what that color would actually look like on my house before we paint!

We have a nice Andersen storm door on the front, but it is hunter green. Would y'all leave it on as is or take it off once we paint the door?
You're welcome! :-)
One more ~ door color change to the one you like with hunter green storm door.

Can I make a suggestion? Before taking a plunge with painting, do you think you could paint(with inexpensive craft paint of a similar color) paper with the glass area cut free and tape that to the door with storm door left in place and see if you like the look? Or tape it to the outside of the storm door to make it disappear? You could always think on it a bit and maybe decide to have the color in the wreath instead...maybe a bow or maybe it is paintable...or can be dyed...or have a few small accent items added to pull all the colors together? I like the green door and the brick color one, too. Big help, huh? :-)
We have a 50's wooden door with overlapping small circle windows that we might paint black. Putting a black plastic garbage bag on the door and cutting out the glass circles gave us an idea of the look from the street in our comings and goings.
Hope this helps ~ very sweet home you have. God is very good; yes, indeed. :-)
I'm having a bit of give-a-way. Come see. :o)
Joyce,
That picture was a great help! Thank you so much. It helped us decide that we don't want the storm door to be green! The darker color of the door is GREAT, and I LOVE the ideas about painting the paper first. We'll be doing the project on Saturday. I appreciate all of your help--you're so thoughtful.
